Choose the filing method that gives the lowest tax rate; married filing jointly or separately. Info on the W2 is used to determine the amount of taxes taken out of your paycheck.
SS# is the important thing
You can do it either way and change the method every year, no problem. Your free election. Of course, there is no such thing as "married single." Married and single are mutually exclusive. You are thinking of "married filing separately."
It does not matter if you file with your original W2 or not. As long as you have a copy of the W2, that is all that is needed. If you file online, you do not even need to send your W2 in.
w2 form
- for example, two women (w1 and w2) and a man. the man is married to w1. the man goes after w2 making her think that he is single. man and w2 becomes bf/gf then later w2 finds out that the man is married with w1. can w2 say that she was cheated on? obviously the man cheated with w2, but if w2 didn't know that the man was married to w1, can w2 actually say she was 'cheated on' considering the fact that she was the 'other woman' and that w1 was established first.
