The answer is no you cannot switch from ddr to ddr2 since they are notched differently and will not fit,best is to check your motherboard manufacter to see the amount of ram and type your board supports,You will have to pull the cover off and see stamped on the board the name{manufacter] and model number then go to their site to get the specs,or you could use some trusted online software
