Your serial number indicates that your Springfield model 1873 trap door model rifle was made in the year 1885.I would check to see if you have the next model, which was the model 1884.

it was made by Colt in 1918. If there is a springfield slide on the gun the it was put there later on. Not unusual to see a springfield slide on a colt receiver
I have a model 87A, SPRINGFIELD J Stevens .22 tube fed 15 shot semi auto. I have not looked at it for YEARS. Took it out over Christmas week-end at a range and ran 45 rounds through it. It worked very well.....however I came home and took it a-part to clean it and am now having trouble getting the bolt back into the receiver. It appears one of the tines that catches the rim on the shell casing is askew...........I came to this site to see if there was a manual on-line. Any one with a similar problem?
