It is possible to connected a DirecTV receiver to both a computer and a conventional television. However, the receiver is designed to be connected to the television.
Does the dish network remote have a sleep timer?
We do not have a timer option on the remote to place the receiver in sleep mode. The only timer options are for setting up recordings for movies and programs. Sleep mode can be setup for you TV but not the DISH receiver.
Can this be set to come on and off with a timer when I am gone?
Yes, this television can be set to turn on and off using the timer function. Just set the time in the menu.

How do you use sleep timer on TV with Direct TV?
Direct TV does not have a sleep timer unfortunately. Therefore I use my TV's sleep timer and the box stays on pretty much all the time. I have me Ed had any complication with the box always being on. Sometimes if I remember I turn it off in the morning on my way to school and/or work.
Why is television shutting off after being on for awhile?
You most likely have some kind of automatic timer set on the television. You need to change the settings of the timer.
