everybody is a bit confused when it comes to taking the pill and how much time they must wait in order to no to get pregnant
here is the answer in a nutshell: Dr. tell you to take the pill the first day of your period. why? this is to make sure you are not pregnant. If you are 100% sure that you are not pregnant you can start to take your pill of immediately and in the both cases you are protected as of the moment you start to take the pill.
to avoid issues and worries be constant taking your pill and at the right time everyday Don´t skip a pill and its 100% sperm prof.
just keep in mind that the pill will only protect you from not getting pregnant, but not from sexual transmitted diseases so please be safe and careful.

I'm also on Diane (protip Brenda-35 is exactly the same and half the price) and if you want to delay or even skip your period just skip the white (placebo) pills and take the next yellow (active) pill in the pack. FYI it's not unhealthy or dangerous for you to skip or delay your period for a month or two.

If this is your first day taking the pill, you should start the pack on the first day of your period. If you are already taking the pill, take one every day, even when you have your period. Follow the instructions that come with the pack.
