Many people who have started Prozac/fluoxetine have been on it since it was first prescribed for them. Ideally, clinical depression needs quick pharmaceutical intervention where some professionals believe this should be limited to less than 3 months, others continue to prescribe the medication for more than a decade. Some patients have tried to switch to lower and lower doses and taper...to no avail. The withdrawal symptoms for some people are too much to bear and still be able to function at home and work, etc. The jury is all over the place on this one...
