Dah - You can but you shouldn't.
In order to escape without being noticed Luke, Offred, and her daughter must remain inconspicous. If they leave without disposing of the cat the neighbors will know something is wrong. If they release the cat into the wild, it will most likely paw on the door. They need to kill the cat if they have any hope of escaping.
It's pretty hard to make any cat do much of anything. Getting your own cat to come when called would be a big enough achievement. Don't expect your neighbor's cat to pay any attention to you at all. It's just as well, because your neighbor might not appreciate your confusing the matter if he or she is trying to get the cat to respond to a call.
No! Of course not. It's just a figure of speech. Cat burglars creep around, mostly at night, as they "case" offices and homes with the intent to break in and burglarize the places. They are known to be "silent as cats", hence the "cat burglar" moniker. Sometimes, cat burglars are so quiet, they can break into homes while the residents sleep and the homeowners never see or hear the burgular.
you get it to attack you, then say "attack", then you comfort the cat and give it a treat. repeat this for up to 15 times. repeat all this for the next week, it's amazing how quickly they'll learn, but how easlily they'll forget. refresh the cat's memory after that week.
