I have been a substitute teacher with a BA and a provisional certification for 8 years working towards my masters and permanent certification in Long Island NY. I recently got notes from 3 local school districts I have worked regularly nixing my eligibility to sub because I did not get my permanent certification yet. I fulfill all requirements for a permanent certification except a masters degree. I started paying graduate courses out of my own pocket (1000,- per 3 credits) because the job situation here is grim. The masters I would need to be 'reinstated' for subbing is about 30000,-. To take out a loan with todays job possibilities is out of the question. I pleaded with the Dept. of Education for an extension so I can continue to sub and pay for my masters and permanent certification. No help there! My calling to be a teacher has ended. Hence you need a masters to be permanently certified and to be able to sub in Eastern Long Island.

I hope this helps.
