Yes, Dual Core processor will support from 915 Mainboard
In the older days (pre-1998), this was not only possible, but quite common. The AMD K6 processor was engineered to work and fit on the same boards as Pentiums. However, their products have since diversified, and the chipsets use different and incompatible instructions, and the processors used totally different sockets.

HP themselves do not manufacture motherboards. Most mother boards now will easily support resolutions of 1200x800.
You can technically go all the way up to the Phenom II 1090T Hexi-Core Processor with this motherboard, but the processor won't be able to be utilized on the older AM2+ socket. I'd suggest the Rana 3 core Athlons or perhaps a Phenom II X4

A server mother is like a normal motherboard except they are geared to a server processor and can hold more than one processor usually. They also support ECC memory which is memory with error correction. They support RAID. And most can are slim to be put in what is called a U1 chassis so they can go on a server rack.

The processor, it allows better use of your RAM and video card the better the processor you buy
You can not change the processor port on a motherboard, you can change the processor to another with the same pin set, but not the port itself. If you want to use a diffrent processor you would need to replace the motherboard with one that supports the pin set of the new processor.
You need to know the Chipset of your board
