Yes it is possible... I once swallowed one in the 9th grade by chewing on it and then hiccuping. It went right down my throat as if it were food. It was longitudinal so it went down easily. If it were horizontal it would obviously be painful and could cause harm... either that or impossible. It would also trigger your puke reflexes. If you do swallow a pen you need to go to the doctors for it could cause harm to your intestines and cause inner bleeding.
