It's possible to swap in a B20 series motor from a 3rd gen Prelude to a 5th gen Civic. However, it would be more practical (and easier to swap in) a D-series motor which there are multiple variants for the Civic between the late '80s into the '90s.

It can be and it can be something else. A good professional mechanic can diagnose the cause.
Check the engine and under the car from front to back for any oil. It is either a leak or being "blown out." If the PVC valve is stuck, or the dipstick isn't seated right oil can leave the engine block, seemingly disappearing. The PVC valve is the most likely place to start looking.
