I don't recommend it. I took a Claritin D in the morning and it wouldn't let me sleep that night so I took an Ambien. I stopped breathing during my sleep (mixing uppers with downers took lots of rock stars from us).

I awoke only after my body began to shut down and I was gasping for air and almost blacking out.

50 yr old health male. Others I know take Claritin D with no problem. Definitely not for me. The generic brand does not effect me that way.

Actives: Claritin uses HCL whereas the generic uses Sulfate.

As far as I can tell, Claritin is advertised as a non-drowsy anti-histamine. As such, it should not affect Ambien in it's ability to sedate and easy the user into sleep.
