Although my experience is limited, I have found that there is no subjective, or objective withdrawal symptoms with just a 20-30% increase to my previous opiate dose- I can stabilize OF COURSE the decision to save myself from methadone..deserves a reward of a triple- up blast off.... then ya, sick comes quiker ..and without at least the 2-3 doses to make it thru to bedtime I would be off to an uncomfortable start. Lets say I do have the means to afford a 10 day bender... ? It does seem logical- it is fact..we see that heroin/opiate withdrawal is less frightening to anticipate, and a milder "hell to kick" ".. and with the lifestyle changes that a methadone routine provides,it could be the conditioning for a short visit .. 10 days to kick the methadone..without fear or pain ...then the awful 24-36 hours of torture we face till we can begin the REAL HELL of kicking cold turkey ..600,00 seconds till our 1st glorious flash of relief...when its better.. just the worst flu ever... not the vividly slow motion fire and freeze of every last cell ..100 weight sand-paper wet suit..soaked sheets, pillow, toes sweat.. sleepless..a totally un- distractable torture . And.. the knowledge.. a sip of methadone... and its just the 10-15 min till your body absorbs it.. 110% better.

The "shoulda coulda -if i woulda" regrets associated with the methadone "kop-out", had better be a finely tuned battle-plan... or, - its back to the clinic "sweatin like a slave"..

AND REPEAT...

...and repeat...common roller coaster..

It does make sense... but its not likely that the weakness we cultivated with the progression of an already sensible debate.. life sux.. drugs get u hi.. get hi.. u cant ruin what will only die.. ***

simplified.. if you are bionic..a super-sport will.. angels pullin your strings..and guaranteed bliss upon drug-free- dom.. You still need luck to end up on the 8% side of statistics.

what a pickle ... opiate addiction

Methadone is an opioid, a synthetic opiate like OxyContin. Because of its long half-life, the time it takes for 1/2 of a drug to leave the body, it is particularly dangerous when combined with other narcotics.

Most people taking heroin or OxyContin are used to feeling the effects of the drugs quickly. If they take it to get high they feel the "rush." If they are taking OxyContin to deal with pain then they are used to feeling the anesthetic effects in a short time. However, if they take methadone the effects will take much longer to be felt.

This can be very dangerous because the user can think that they need to take more methadone and this can lead to acute respiratory depression and lead to death.

All narcotics are central nervous system depressants and this is why they must be taken carefully to avoid overdose and why slower acting drugs like methadone can be dangerous.

Yes. You can still take other opiates although methadone blocks the other drugs from getting you "LOADED". That is to get you used to being sober again.

What can you take for headache while taking methadone?

You can take basically any of the popular over the counter medicines you want for a headache while taking methadone. Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin they are all safe to take while taking methadone. I made sure by contacting several pharmacist and asking. They all confirmed the safety of taking them together.

Can you work safely on methadone?

I have been on methadone for 8 years and while it may take a while to "adjust" to it, you can absolutely work on it. I would suggest not to mention it to anyone while on the job, though. Once again, i am not a pharmacist, nor do i have any pharmacological training, so, be careful out there!

How much methadone should you take when took 60 mg hydrocodone a day?

none you shuoldnt take any opiate with methadone.

What drugs mixed with alcohol cause blackouts?

The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes, you can get a blackout when you take alcohol and methadone together. And no, methadone is not the cause of a blackout. If you get a blackout it is strictly from the Alcohol consumption. Of course, methadone will increase your level of intoxication. But if you blackout on methadone, you are either dead or overdosing. Methadone is a very dangerous drug and has an incredibly long half-life. I do NOT recommend mixing methadone and any other drug. If you are going to drink while on methadone, do so in moderation.

If you have a rx for methadone from a MD is this ok?

If I have a prescription from my doctor for methadone and take it very responsably, with the hope of a two year detox. I have to take a swab test. will this pick up the methadone that I have been on for over one year, without any othetrproplems

Not mix with methadone?

You should avoid benzodiazepines and ETOH (alcohol) while taking methadone. Methadone, benzodiazepines and alcohol are all respiratory suppressants combining any of these three can lead to respiratory arrest and possibly death.

Can you take norco and methadone?

You could take them together but its quite a waste eventually. Methadone works as a blocker of opiates . Heroin addicts get prescribed it to take away their withdrawal but also so they cant get high from herion anymore. You would have to be on it for a little while before that starts working but it eventually does. I used to take up to 30 vicodin and or norcos a day, and when i tried to get off it i was prescribed methadone. ++Addition++ First of all, methadone DOES NOT block the effects of opiates. It does not contain any of the opiate blocking chemicals like suboxone or narcon does. However, taking ANY opiate in addition to Methadone can be very dangerous. Methadone is stronger per mg than many of the standard opiates that people take, such as Norco or Lortab. So taking one of these with Methadone can very easily send you into overdose mode. This is not to say that they cannot be taken together, but you just have to be very, very careful. My suggestion would be to ALWAYS speak with your doctor or other licensed health care professional for advice on what to take with your methadone.

Is it ok to take methadone and then percs?

That would be defeating the object. If you are on a drugs program, they will slowly reduce your Methadone prescription and provide other support if needed.

Does the jail system allow inmates to take librium?

Can you take mucinex while taking methadone?

YES, it is safe to take Mucinex while taking Methadone. I contacted a pharmacist to confirm that it is safe, because I needed to know the same thing. They told me it is safe but they wouldn't take them directly together. She said to wait like an hour or so between each medicine. Then she said that is a good rule of thumb for any medications that you are taking. So yes, you can take them together just wait an hour in between.

Can you take famotidine while on methadone?

Yes you can. But if you are looking for a potentiometer, Cimetidine is the heartburn medicine that is best for someone when on methadone. When you run out of Famotidine, see if you can get some Tagamet or generic Tagamet which is "Cimetidine" then maybe your methadone will go a bit farther. But studies have shown that neither Famotidine (Pepcid) nor Ranitidine (Zantac) show any negative drug interactions with methadone, they just dont offer the potentiometer effect that you get from Cemetidine (Tagamet).. Hope this helps :-)

Can i take prilosec with methadone?

Prilosec can have interactions with methadone. You should not start taking any new drug, over the counter or otherwise, without first speaking to your doctor.
