I am not sure what prayer would, on its own, make anyone a Christian, since being a Christian is more about what you believe than what prayer you have said.

I think that the question implies you no longer wish to be a Christian. If this is because you realise you do not believe in Christianity, then you are already not a Christian and have no reason to "take back" any prayer. However, if you were previously a member of another faith you may need to seek advice from your religious leaders about being readmitted to that faith.

What tragedies and disasters have happened since prayer and Bible reading were taken out of the public schools?

Respect and honor were taken out of the schools when prayer ended. Be you a Christian or not it's a learning curve to think about and teaches kids to know right from wrong. Take a look at Columbine (kids being bullied and retaliating back at classmates and teachers) and just recently a University tragedy. Kids can be cruel.Gee, perhaps they should take the National Anthem of the U.S. and Canada out next and burn the flags!AnswerYeah, it probably wouldn't make anything better, though! Answerprayer was taken out of schools in 1962. in my opinion its NOT a good thing that they did that because we all need prayer and maybe things would get better in schools if they put prayer back in.

What prayer does the Jewish and Christian faith share?

I would say that they shouldn't. Christians are praying to a trinity, and therefore Idolatry in Jewish views. Any prayers that a Jew would pray to G-d should be pure and accepting to G-d and not contaminated by the Christian idolatry. If a Christian is praying to his view of G-d(s), the Jew should remain quiet out of respect for the individual, but not for his prayer. The Jew should not take part in any part of the prayer at all especially the ending of the prayer where the Christians say amen. Some might argue that the Jew could just as easy pray his own prayer at the same time as the Christian, however would this really be accepting to G-d? Prayer is sacred, and that it why we take such great strides to keep it that way (like no tallit in the bathroom). Sit quietly and allow the Christian to finish praying, then do your prayers as you normally would.
