These are both CNS depressants of different kinds. Ones an opiate (codeine) used usually for pain the other is a benzodiazapine (xanax) usually for anxiety and panic attacks. They are safe together in a small dosage. When I was 21 I took a bunch of Opiates like vicodin, Oxy, codeine, etc and Benzos like xanax, Valium and klonopin. I took way too much like over 20 pills. I was in a coma for 3 weeks and had an anoxic brain injury, its like a stroke. Also, in states where they use lethal injection if the injections arent working they just shoot them with a lot of morphine (opiate like codeine but much stronger) and also Benzos like strong xanax. In conclusion, Yes they can be taken together if prescribed and used responsibly for what they've been prescribed. only not in high doses, too high and you'll get respiratory depression (ur lungs relax too much and u don't breath)...
