i am not a trained/certified physician. however, i asked my psychiatric nurse practitioner this same question yesterday, and she said it would be fine. she has other patients that are on both.

i proposed the question, as i really like abilify (mood-wise), but it keeps me awake for days, and makes me feel really agitated physically, where as seroquel helps me sleep. I took the two together for a couple months or so but I had to quit taking the Abilify as I lost the ability to make simple conversation. I couldn't talk to loved ones or friends. I sat there basically brain-dead. I stopped taking the Abilify but kept taking the Seroquel and the brain inactivity was no longer a problem. Also to this day I can't control facial tics and I have not taken Abilify for almost two years. I was never warned that this would happen or become permanent.

I was diagnossed with Deperssion/Anxiety about 5 1/2 years ago and was perscribed with Zoloft. I ws taking between 100/150mg does. I loved it... Zoloft changed my life... Then over the past 6 months, all of my original depression/anxiety symptoms started coming back. The difference now is, I have 2 small children, so with life's constant "challenges" in the end it seemed to be worse than it originally was 5 1/2 years ago. My Doctor said that this does commonly happen in Women, due to hormonal changes - so even though the Zoloft was probably still "chemically" doing it's job, hormonally things are different.

She changed me over to Pristiq - 50mg to start. My anxiety seemed to worsen and over the past few weeks I started to become VERY irritable. I felt I was yelling at my children constantly - and I feel that I have began to actually frighten them. I would never physically hurt them, but frightening them with my yelling and screaming would probably be doing more damage. I also feel that my husband is losing faith in me as a good Mother.

Anyway, my doctor upped my dose of the Pristiq yesterday to 100mg and also perscribed 25mg of Seroquel to be taken at night. I took the Seroquel last night for the first time and within a half hour of taking it, I felt horrible. I got terrible hot flushes and became extremely confused and VERY anxious. I had to go to bed because I couldn't stand to be around anyone. I woke up this morning extremely groggy... I do hope this gets better and I am terribly scared that I am going to become both physically and emotionally drained and that I am going to be left with no personality.

AD: I've been on 50mg of Pristiq and 25mg of Seroquel for almost a year. Pristiq has definitely improved my depression and mood swings, but I feel that it has not helped my anxiety at all. I was prescribed Seroquel for insomnia and it has served its purpose. As stated above, I also wake up feeling very groggy. It does subside a couple of hours after waking up and my body has adjusted after taking it almost every night. I'd recommend giving yourself at least 8 hours of sleep. On Seroquel, you'd be able to sleep for much longer, at least in my experience. I once slept over 18 hours when I took two (2) as I thought the first pill no longer had the same effect. Initially, I felt irritated and anxious for the first couple of weeks, but I knew that my body had to adjust to the medication before seeing results. Aside from that, I have not had any side effects. Be cautious with Seroquel and I recommend to take it before bedtime as it is one powerful little pill, but always consult with your caregiver.

My psychiatrist said that Seroquel and Zyprexa target different receptors to an extent. So, you can take both. When I was in the psyche ward, the staff psychiatrist gave me zyprexa and seroquel together at night. Personally, I got a lot of energy from taking seroquel and zyprexa together that night and refused to do it again.

Can you take an antidepressant with Vyvanse and abilify?

You would have to be very careful about the Abilify dosage. Abilify is metabolized by an enzyme, CYP 2D6, both Wellbutrin and Prozac inhibits that enzyme. This will result in increased levels of Abilify.

What bipolar medication works well with Vyvanse?

Abilify works very well with Vyvanse. Abilify is a mood-stabiliser similar to zyprexa and seroquel. Abilify is weight-neutral and has lower rates of akathisia than other atypical anti-psychotics. I also take Cymbalta for anxiety and PTSD. Vyvanse has worked extremely well for me. I have also been diagnosed with dysphoric mania, which is a "mixed-state" bipolar II disorder. I have been stable for over a year on these three medications.
