I have a 1987 ford bronco and I changed the heater core in about 15 minutes. All you have to do is remove glove box and there is a panel with a few screws around it. and there you go.
Remove the interior trim along the rear windows and between the cab and fiberglass roof. Take out all the bolts that you expose. Slide the roof back slightly then lift it and set it down somewhere safe.
does your bronco have an external voltage regulator if so i would take it and have it checked

The Bronco's design was intended to have the top come off so every year bronco's top can come off but they only make soft tops up to 77 for the bronco so before you try to take yours off think about getting a custom made one or the seal of the roof wont be the same.
to take the key switch out you need to press the little pin sized rod located on the bottom of the switch. once pushed in twist the switch out.
