King Yoshiah (Josiah) was one of the righteous Israelite kings. He lived shortly before the First Destruction, during the time of Jeremiah. His great-grandfather was the righteous Hezekiah, but in between were his immediate ancestors, the wicked Menashe and the even more wicked Amon.

Josiah put himself at the helm of a great movement of repentance among the people of Judah. He rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem, cleaned the land of idolatry, and invited the remnants of the Ten Tribes to participate in the Pesach (Paschal) offering.

During the rededication of the Temple, there occurred the well-known incident in which a Torah-scroll was found. There were two reasons why Josiah got so agitated upon seeing this scroll. One is that it was found rolled to the passage (Deuteronomy ch.28) predicting the Destruction. The other reason was that this particular scroll was written by Moses himself, eight centuries earlier.
