You can, but it will take a lot of retraining for the horse to learn the pressure cues given by the bitless bridle and many horses have trouble collecting and extending without the aid of a bit.

What are the benefits of a bitless bridle?

A bitless bridle is a term that describes a wide variety of headgear for horses that controls the horses without placing a bit in the horse's mouth. A bitless bridle allows the rider to steer the horse more smoothly and reduces pain for the horse.

What kind of bridle should you use to break your horse?

I broke mine in a rope halter. I say anything bitless, halter, hackamore (not the machanical kind) or the Bitless bridle.

A bridle with no bit is called a what?

A bit is the part of the bridle that gets put in the horse's mouth. It is usually metal. It's used for control. The reigns are connected to it. A bridle without a bit is built differently to put pressure on different pars of the horse's head to give the rider control with the reigns. Though many riders use bitless bridles for many many reasons, I like them because when my horse and I go on trail rides, we can stop and take a break and I can let my horse eat grass without the hassle of changing from bridle to halter.

What is the most comfortable bit for a horse besides a bitless bridle?

I personally think the snaffle is nice because the horse can play with it with it's tongue, but the snaffle might pinch the horse's mouth.

What bit should you use for your horse he is 6 and stong and cant get him to lower his head when you do he lowers it all the way and you cant get him on an out line?

Try a bitless bridle. Many horses hate bits, because bits often hurt the horse. It's really hard to use a bit and NOT hurt the horse with it. Most bridles and bits use pain or the threat of pain to make a horse do something. So, I advise getting a bitless bridle and training him instead of going up a bigger, stronger (and therefore more painful) bit.

How is a bridle important in horse riding?

A bridle is used to control a horse or pony when you are riding them. Bridles have a "bit" a piece that fits in the horse's mouth and usually a leather strap that fastens behind the jaw of the hourse. When the shanks that are attached to the bit's bridle are pulled by a set of reins that the rider holds, it puts pressure on the horse's jaw and therefore you are able to stop or guide the horse. A bridle is used for a little extra control. If you have a trained horse you will not need to tug and pull a bunch. If you are more experienced you can use your "aids".Your hips, legs and eyes.Your horse can sense shifts of weight.

Where do you put a hackamore?

A hackamore is a bitless bridle that is good for young horses or horses with sensitive mouths. Rather than a bit, it loops around the muzzle and act with pressure on the poll and the face, rather than the usually magnified pressure of a bit. A hackmore goes on a horse the same as a bridle.

How do you bridle train a horse?

Bridle training a horse can take a long time. You can start the horse out young however and get them used to it. While the horse is still a foal (If you have the horse while it's that young) get it used to having a leather foal halter on and lead it around gently. As the horse gets older, around a year old or so you can place a bridle (Without the bit) on it's head and begin to lead it with the bridle on. After the horse accepts this you can introduce the bit, a very gentle snaffle type bit is best, give the horse treats while it has the bit and bridle on at the same time. Again once this becomes second nature to the horse to have a bridle and bit on you can begin training the horse to follow the pressure from the bit and how to turn, move forward, and backwards. You'll need a helper for this portion of the training. Eventually the horse will accept the pressure and you will have a horse trained to the bridle.

What are the parts of a tack?

It depends on what type of riding you do. The most basic ones are the saddle, saddle pad, and half pad. The bridle varies between what you and your horse prefers, but the only two that I know of are the bitted and bitless. :) Hope that helped!

What is the best bit and bridle for the walking horse?

By walking horse I assume you mean the Tennessee Walking horse. I find that my TWH (and many other horses of other breeds) prefer bitless bridles, but bosals aren't good for walking horses because of their head action. The bottom tends to come up and hit them when they move their head, or so I've heard. I ride in a halter, and you can also get the Bitless Bridle. But other than the bosal, Walking horses will go in anything. If I have to have a bit I prefer a snaffle because it's so gentle, and the horses seem to like it better too.

What is the best non-leather bridle for all around use?

I prefer different types of Bitless Bridles, depends on who you ask for the answer you get. I don't believe there is any one "best" but try a few and which ever your horse finds most comfortable is the best.
