There is no East to West waterway.
If you wanted to go to the Western shores of New York
(Lake Erie or Lake Ontario), you would have to proceed
down the Ohio River to the Mississippi and North to the locks
in Chicago and then on to the Great Lakes.
Or to the Eastern shore of NYC, out the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The Erie canal is no longer navigable.
Another way would be down the Mississippi, thru the Gulf,
around the tip of Florida and up the coast.
Not an economical way to travel, but it is possible.
The size of the boat may be a factor also. Clearing bridges
and the shallower river waters being the main concern.
