If you use the 5.565 inch 400 connecting rods , then you can use regular 350 pistons. The longer stroke 400 crank also requires that you provide additional clearance inside the block, by grinding notches to eliminate the crank hitting the block and other parts. Finally, the entire engine must be re-balanced to make sure that the engine does not vibrate. The 400 is externally balanced and the 350 is internally balenced so you need to use 400 flywheel and 400 harmonic balancer.

Well a 307 has a bore of 3.875 and a stroke of 3.25, so to build a 350 out of a 307 you would need to bore out the 307 .125 inch to a 4 inch bore, which in most cases can not be done, and you would have to put a 350 crank which has a stroke of 3.48 inches and use 350 pistons. But if you want more cubes and power out of your 307 you can bore it .03 over, have it decked .025 inches, and use a 350 crank with 400 rods and 307 pistons to make a ground pounding 333 stroker.

You can buy main bearing spacers at most speed shops that will allow you to use standard 350 bearings. Use the 400 pistons on the 350 rods and the height will come out pretty good. You'll lose about 3/4 of a compression point in the destroke, so use a piston that is appropriate for what you're trying to do.

I am in the process of trying to find out a way to turn down the 400 crank just a slight bit and and adjust the stroke of my 350 to it and the main journal a little bit and then put the 6 inch rods in it and make sure the height lines up! anyone have any tips on a project similar to this???My VersionYou don't need to bore 30 over You need: Correct pistons for modification, 400 crank, 400 rods, HArmonic balancer and flexplate for 400This is the basic 383 but to be a "true" 383 it needs the 30 over size pistons.
