Somewhere I have heard that it is unlawful to photocopy or otherwise copy a US passport.

∙ 14y agoI doubt it very much.Not in todays security situation.You need to go to your nearest American Embassy and get issued a temporary passsport but expect to be delayed for several days.

I keep a copy of all my documents, driver licence to passport, even credits cards. never know when you will need it.

If you are a dual passport holder then you use the particular passport for that country and the other passport for the other country. like if you are travelling to US then use US passport if you are travelling Canada use your Canadian passport.

A US Passport is valid only 'in person, in it's ORIGINAL, hard-copy booklet form. Any reproduction of it is entirely unacceptable for anything whatsoever, and I do not believe that there are any regulations about e-mailing a copy of it.
