You may even find that you might be able to both the 74Xl and the 75XL which is usually even more cost efficient depending on how much and often you are printing.
It is not so much the type of toner as it is in matching the size and shape of the cartridge. You will need to find the model number of your printer and then look up the product number (SKU) of the cartridge that fits. Quite possibly the cartridge that is currently in your printer has the number on it.

Ink cartridges have a specific connectors and chips that will only work in certain printers. Also the type of ink and nozzle size are also designed specifically for certain printers.I suggest looking around online and buy the Lexmark #55 black ink cartridge.
The cost of any printer ink cartridge varies depending on several factors, including model, size and if it is black or color ink. One of the biggest factors in the cost of replacement ink is if one desires Genuine Canon ink, or if knock off replacement ink will suffice. Original ink could cost $15 -24 per cartridge, depending on where it was purchased, whereas replacement inks from a non-OEM company could be as low as $6 for the same size cartridge.
While this product can be used in a home office environment it may be more suited to conventional offices, mainly due to its size and running costs. This product will require both a color and black toner cartridge, each costing approximately $90 for approximately 3000 prints for the color cartridge. I have one and use it in my office. It works great!
