This is not advised. The soap can hurt the animals eyes. If you are careful not to get any mild dish soap in the eyes, you can use it. Cat shampoo is advised because it is very mild and wont hurt the animal.

They do need bathes, but they have their own soap to use. every few months they need one. Be sure to dry them, If they're not thoroughly dried they may catch a cold and die. Otherwise, stick it in very shallow warm water and wash with kitten shampoo.

The best shampoo that I've used is a kitten shampoo that is made from oatmeal... It's very gentle and won't dry your GP's skin. Make sure that you don't get any on his/her face either since you don't want any getting in their eyes when you rinse.
Also, don't use Baby Shampoo as it will be too strong on your GP's skin also.
