I would say no. Mascarpone is sweet and creamy whereas ricotta is drier and bland. I would recommend you use a cream cheese (like Philadelphia) instead.
You can use 8oz of Cream Cheese, 1/4 cup of Heavy whipping cream and 2 1/2 tbsp of Sour Cream and whip it together... This is VERY similar...! Just don't substitute anything in this mixture, and you should be set!
Ricotta cheese is similar to cottage cheese. They can be substituted. It is also easy to make ricotta; whole milk, heavy cream, salt and white vinegar. dairy curdles.
Mascarpone is similar to cream cheese just sweeter. It is used in desserts, where as the cream cheese usage would require more sugar.
Cheddar! Cheddar tastes well with anything!
Id depends on what your intended use is for the ricotta as to whether cream cheese may be substituted. In general i would say no because the two cheese while both being soft and white are very different in their textures and uses in food preparation and cooking. sometimes mascarpone and cream cheese are interchangeable but i would insist on using ricotta when a recipe requires it.
A basic substitution would be to use cream cheese instead. If you have a little time, a mixture of 1 tablespoon of cream mixed with every 8 ounces of softened cream cheese is better. If you don't have cream handy, you can use butter to blend with the cream cheese instead. Or use 1/4 cup of whipped cream.
Sometimes, yes. But they do taste different and their texture is different so the resulting dish will be quite different. I'd experiment first and see if you like the result before you serve it to someone else.
definitely not cuz cottage cheese ain't have so much fat as ricotta cheese. If ur on a diet, id say follow the recipe ur usin so your diet works. :)
Ricotta cheese is NOT a substitute for romano cheese. Use parmesan if you must. Ricotta cheese is more like cottage cheese. Romano cheese is a stronger, tastier than parmesan cheese also know as the pizza cheese.
No. Plain yogurt is a good substitute for sour cream. A substitute for ricotta cheese is cottage cheese that has been drained of excess water (use cheese cloth or seive).
Awesome Cheese Master a.k.a. Kypsta: It really depends. If you are having a really fancy party or having your boss over you should probably get a nice cheese so in this case you would probably need the Mascarpone cheese. If you were having a regular dinner you would just use cream cheese because good cheese is expensive and if you already have cream cheese then you should just use it. If you are making a recipe you should try and get some Mascarpone cheese because usein cream cheese might ruin the recipe. In this situation, if you have enough materials, you might make two of the recipe and make 1 with Mascarpone cheese and 1 with cream cheese. Here is a suggested substitute for Mascarpone which I use and it is hard to tell the difference: (8 ounce) package cream cheese * 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream, * 2 1/2 tablespoons sour cream Do NOT use low or non fat versions.
Ricotta is used in many foods in Europe. European ricotta is much sweeter than the American style and it's main use is in various desserts and cheesecakes
Yes you can
the Difference is that Cottage cheese is more lumpy and tastes great with pineaple, whereas ricotta tastes better with pasta and is a creamy cheese(i think) this answer is only a guess so dont use it for papers or stuff like that
Mozzarella cheese, Cheddar cheese, Feta cheese, Romano cheese & Ricotta cheese.
