No, there are a select few games nowadays to battle against.

RBY cant even Battle with GSC, well technically u can, I've done it, its hard to do,

and can ruin your 1st generation (RBY) game.

Once you hit GBA games those are the only ones you can battle with, and using pal park for your DS games you can send Pokemon from the GBA games.
