Yes, you definitely can put paper shreds in a bunny cage. My rabbit uses paper and there is no side effects. Not all papers are safe, though, because some papers are covered in chemicals that are not good for rabbits (or anyone!) to ingest. Paper is a lot of fun for rabbits to play with and tear up, so look for plain paper products and you should be fine: like newsprint or plain cardboard, with no glossy parts, no staples or tape, no stickers or labels, and not much colours/printing. Don't shred the paper first, though: let the rabbit shred the paper! The more things you give a rabbit to do, the less bored she'll be and the less she'll want to destroy your stuff!

Yes, but it has no "up sides" To it. It makes their cage stink, so you have to clean it out about 3-4 more times than with the "cotton" found in most pet stores.

I don't suggest it. The pet store that i go to had it in the cage and i did the same but then i noticed that the bunny liked to eat it and the ink can't be good for it.

What kind of shavings are good for a pet rat?

Most any shavings, but avoid pine, cedar, and "fluffy" or "soft" bedding. You could even use shredded paper, but no newsprint or "shiny" paper. Really any shavings you could use for a gerbil or hamster.

What kind of bedding do you use for a baby pinky mouse and what should the cage temperature be?

You NEVER EVER want to use pine or cedar shavings for your pet rat or mouse! The phenol in the wood shavings will kill them! Mice and rats are prone to respitory problems, and with wood shavings.. you shorten their lives dramatically! Used recycled paper bedding like CareFresh or Cage Tech (The MUCH cheaper equivalent made my Harlan Teklad 33lbs for 12 bucks). Rat and mice mommies usually create a nest with the bedding and their fur for their babies. You can buy cotton nest material for the pinky mouse to add to the cage. Remember, do not touch the pinky mouse at all! The mother will abandon it or kill it if you do. And be careful of entering the cage..the mom may attack. Anytime you have questions regarding your rat/mouse email someone from the RMCA (Rat Mouse Club of America) and they will email you within a day or two. They have always been super helpful with me. Hopefully the mother of the baby mouse is with the baby,we used to keep the mice in 10 gallon fish tanks, we also used processed wood shavings, as for the temperature, between 72 and 78 degrees. newspaper has ink try to stay away from it, also cedar shavings the aroma can be too strong for the babies,

Where does a pet rat live?

You should house your pet rat in a cage with aspen shavings for bedding. A water bottle and a food dish. Don't put the cage in direct sunlight or near any drafts. It is best if you 2 get rats at one time so they can keep each other company while you are not home to play with them. You can put some toys in the cage for your rat to play with. The cage should be 2 feet by 2 feet by 1 foot for each rat you own.

What kind of bedding do you use for a baby rat 1 to 2 weeks old?

Is it bad for fancy rats bedding to be wet?

Yes - any non-aquatic animals' bedding should be dry, unless pet care guides indicate that it should be damp. For a rat's bedding to be wet it indicates that the rat(s) have urinated in the bedding, in which case it needs to be changed and the cage cleaned.

Causes of wheezing?

There are two common causes of wheezing in pet rats or mice. The pet rat or mouse may have caught a cold or either there is dust in the cage from the shavings.

When you get a rat from a pet store what do you do when you first get home?

Put it in a comfortable cage with bedding and maybe a house (like a little den) in the cage and let it do it's own thing to get used to the cage for 24 hours, then handle it more and more every day so it gets used to humans. Enjoy your new rat

Where can you buy a rat cage in the western cape?

Just use a large bird cage, or a rabbit cage. My rat has a rabbit cage, and she's as happy as can be. My old rat had a bird cage, and he was perfectly fine.

Can pet rats be potty trained?

Yes they can. Some pet shops sell litter boxes for rats. To be successful use the same kind of bedding that your rat currently uses in the cage for the litter and a new type of bedding for the rest of the cage. Place the litter box in the same area that they use now to go potty.

What supplies do you need for a pet rat?

A cage that they rat can't escape from - make sure wire cages have the wire close enough together that the rat can't squeeze out. If it can get its head through, it can escape.A water bottleA food dish - feed a commercial rat diet and fruits, veggies and treatsBedding - this can be paper shreds, commercial bedding, old blanket scraps, etc. They like to have an old cardboard box or even a "rat cube" made from material to curl up in to sleep. They also like hammocks.Litter - you can do litter across the entire bottom of the cage or you can try a litter pan but most likely the rat will not "use" the litter pan so covering the entire cage floor is recommended.Toys - rats get bored and will play with toys to entertain themselves.Speaking of treats, I had a pet rat that enjoyed cat food.
