Yes- but the sheet metal should be placed on spacers to hold it clear of the wall, and permit air to circulate behind it. Installed in this way it can help shield walls from the heat. If simply attached directly to a combustible wall with no air space, it will still transmit heat to the wall. The air space behind the sheet metal will allow the heat the sheet metal receives to be dissipated by air flow, keeping the wall at safe temperatures. The bottom of the sheet metal should be at least 2 inches above the floor, and the sheet metal should extend at least 1 foot above the top of the stove. The stand offs should be made of sheet metal, bent in a z shape, and should not obstruct air flow behind the sheet metal shield. A sheet metal shop can bend the stand offs for you.
