If inside the United States, and the letter is less than one ounce it would just be one first-class stamp at the regular price (49 cents as of July 2015), and an additional cost for each additional ounce. If you are sending the letter from another country though, the price could be much higher. For instance, if you want a letter delivered to New York from England (in less than 42 days), you would be paying one British Pound for postage, which is over a dollar and a half... more than three times as much as mailing something from elsewhere in the US.
