You should not confine a pet to a cage for amusement because it is cruel and the pet will definitely not trust you or like you anymore once you let it out of its cage. The pet would definitely be angry, possibly leading to the pet's aggressive reaction if you play that "joke" often enough.

If it a pet, then you could buy a cage and put it in that cage and feed it the food that it requires. If it isn't a pet you can call an exterminator.
Besides the cost of the pet (which can be adopted at a local shelter with no cost), you must calculate with the food and depending on the pet you must also calculate with linning for their cage, a cage, a bed or some sort of housing, collar and leash if it is a dog, sandbox if it is a cat and some visits to the vet for controls or vaccinations once in a while.
