You can trade whenever as long as you have a GBA to GBA link cable or two wirless adapters you can trade whenever you want just go up the esculator in any Pokemon center then talk to the middle lady or the lady on the far right the middle lady will lead you in the union room but only if you have a wirless adapter, in the union room you can talk to a lady to register a Pokemon you want to trade then you must choose a Pokemon type you want for the Pokemon Example: Say your trading a geodude and you want a staryu you would choose water type for Pokemon wanted then your friend must go to the trading board choose the geodude and then a question will be asked to you say yes and the trade begins. If you don't have a wirless adapter you can go to the far right lady and after she saves your game choose trade center when your in the center take a seat on any chair and have your friend sit in the other, then start choosing the Pokemon you want to trade press A on them then press A on trade then press A on YES for both players then the trade begins. It takes about a minute or 2 minutes because the Pokemon must be traded shown to each trainer and it must make its cry then it saves. You can always use a wirless adapter to go to the trade center as well.
