Actually yes you can. The Pell grant check is forwarded to you college of choice, however, if there is any money left over after tuition and a trip to the book store the rest of the money is sent to you in a check. This only happens if you are living outside of the school and they deem that you need the extra support for supplies and transportaion. I have had a pell grant before and have had enough money to purchase a vehicle for travel to and from college. However it does take some time to get the check to get to you. So at first you may need to use public transportation or rides from friends/family members until you receive the check.
