Life Insurance is not tax deferred as someone mentioned erroneously here... Life insurance is a tax free benefit, so in general you cannot write it off on taxes.. And loans are also not taxable, so you can access the growth in your whole life tax free even if it grew interest (generally taxable) by utilizing a policy loan... In the case of S Corp's there are a number of allowable instances in writing off life insurance... Such as when an employer pays for life insurance as a part of a beneits package.. The business can write off those premiums.... But personally, its not the case... In general, if uncle sam can't touch the proceeds of a death benefit or tax its growth, then there is no way uncle sam will let you write those premiums off.. You have to pay taxes on those premiums in exchange for a much larger tax free benefit, or a tax free loan against what would be taxed if outright withdrawn..

What is permanent life insurance?

Permanent life insurance is another name for whole life insurance. It provides permanent, lifelong protection. This distinguishes it from term life insurance. Click here for more about permanent life insurance including its advantages and disadvantages. A permanent life insurance policy remains in effect for the life of the insured, with premium payments being made for the same period. Permanent insurance consists of a premium and a cash value or savings component. Like term life insurance, it pays off in the event of your death, but unlike a term life policy, it operates differently. The premiums for a permanent policy are nearly five to ten times the amount of the term life rates. A portion of these premiums go into the cash value element of the policy, and over time, these savings can grow. As the name implies, permanent life insurance is permanent - the policy is applicable for your entire life as long as you keep paying the premiums. The most common permanent life insurance policies are whole life and universal life insurance.

What is supplemental life insurance?

Portable supplemental life insurance is any individual life insurance policy that is not taken through an employer group. The employer provided life insurance coverage will be lost as soon as you change jobs, get laid off, fired or if you quit, while the individual life insurance policies will continue to stay in force regardless of your employment situation (providing you are paying the premiums on time).

Why is whole life insurance not the best insurance to have?

Whole life insurance is not necessarily bad but it may not be right for you as it can be substantially more expensive than a term insurance. If you need life insurance but don't want to pay the high premiums on whole life insurance ask for term insurance quotes. Whole life insurance is a level premium from the time you get the insurance until you die which is good if you have an estate that will need liquid funds but not necessarily right for someone who is just looking for life insurance until their kids are grown or their mortgage is paid off

What type of life insurance companie pay dividends?

Rip-off companies. If they pay dividends, it means they are returning excess premiums you paid. So they charge you bunch of money at first and invest it for themselves. Then return the excess premiums back to you at the end of the year.
