"Duel Monsters", the card game from "Yu-Gi-Oh!" is in many ways, a parody of Magic: The Gathering. And, in fact, several early YGO cards make references to Magic. "Duel Masters" actually plays more like Magic than Yu-Gi-Oh! does, using a mana system to summon monsters and play cards, whereas Yu-Gi-Oh! uses a level system. Another difference is that there are no life points in Duel Masters. So short answer? No, it didn't copy Yu-Gi-Oh!, the names are just similar.
The main characters in "The Magic Box" Italian folktale are typically a poor husband and wife who receive a magical box that can grant any wish. The story usually revolves around their attempts to use the box's powers to improve their lives, leading to both good and bad consequences.
