Adjusting the valves on a Caterpillar C 15 Engine is easy and does not take long at all. How do you Adjust valves Briggs 16 HP Briggs and stratton in a craftsman 1000 series riding mower?

If its a OHV(Over Head Valve) motor, you can, if not, you cant. If it is a OHV engine, you have to use a five thousands feeler gauge, and adjust the nuts on top of the valves to tighten or loosen the clearance between the valve and the rocker arm, also to do this you must make sure that the motor is a TDC on the beginning of the Power stroke. Then slide the feeler gauge in between the rocker arm and the valve until you can barely slide the feeler gauge in between them. then tighten down the lock nut on the adjusting nut and put the valve cover back on.

How do you check valve clearance on Briggs Straton 14.5 hp eng?

You purchase a Briggs & Stratton repair manual, and go from there. Remove the valve covers and using the appropriate feeler guage rotate the crank until each valve is in the fully closed position and slide the feeler between the rocker arm and the valve stem. Adjust until the feeler fits snugly but can still slide in and out by loosening the jam nut on the rocker and turning the adjusting nut. You need to hold the adjusting nut still while you tighten the jam nut.

What is adjustment for Yamaha gas golf cart valve?

Remove the valve cover, you will then see 2 rocker arms with a nut and a square shank. (older models have a 8mm nut newer ones a 10mm). you adjust one valve at a time, by turning the clutch until the valve you are NOT adjusting is at max lift. You loosen the nut on the valve you are adjusting. you now take your .010mm feeler gauge and insert it in between the rocker arm and the valve tip. spin the square head until there is a little drag when sliding the feeler gauge. next you put your wrench on the locking nut and hold the square head from turning (you can use pliers on the square head if you are careful) and tighten the locking nut. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT!!!! AlWaYs check your work here, be sure the feeeler gauge is not too tight or too loose after your adjustment!! repeat this whole procedure on the other rocker arm. install valve cover and your done!!

How do you adjust 22r valve lash?

You need a "feeler gauge" and a wrench to do this. They say to adjust the valves with the engine fully warmed up. So drive it around for 30 minutes before starting this adjustment. Set the crankshaft on TDC and you can adjust half of the valves. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees and you can adjust the rest. If the spec is say .025 get that thickness feeler gauge ready. If you do not have an .025 gauge a .012 and .013 together is just as good or a .020 and a .005 will work. Slip the gauge in between in rocker arm and the valve stem. If you cannot do this the valve is too tight. To do it correctly you move the feeler gauge back and forth while turning the adjusting nut slightly until you begin to feel resistance in the gauge. you want some resistance, enough so that you can move the gauge back and forth without too much effort, but not to where you cannot move it at all or to where you can move it freely. Hence the name feeler gauge as you feel how the gauge passes in between the rocker are and valve stem. Once you have it where you like it, tighten the lock nut to spec's. Once the lock nut is tight, you must recheck the valve clearance to make sure nothing changed while setting the lock nut. If it feels the same as before move on to the next valve. If it feels loose or if you cannot get the gauge back in, you must start over. Loose valves will make noise, tight valves will destroy an engine. Do it correctly or pay the price.

What is the correct feeler gauge size to use when setting valve gap on aircooled 1600 vw?

You need two gauges: a .006" "go" gauge and a .008" "no go" gauge. When the valve is adjusted correctly, the .006 will go in and the .008 will not.
