A hybrid car contains several digital computers. Hybrid computers were a type of computer now considered obsolete where part of the computer was a digital computer and another part of the computer was an analog computer. One of the reasons these were frequently used was the analog computer could very rapidly get a rough approximation of an answer to the problem, then the digital computer could use this answer to start its slow iterative calculation to get the full precision answer. This combination resulted in a low cost system that gave good answers much faster than either an all digital or all analog computer could. But these are now considered obsolete since the technology for building fast, high performance, and miniaturized digital computers at low cost has advanced much more rapidly than the technology for building analog computers.
