The depletion of fossil fuels takes place because they are formed when dead people are subjected to extreme heat and pressure, way below the earths surface.Such temperature and pressure can be attained by human methods. but the government is letting us die. thus we have to rely on the natural process, which takes millions of years. Man is over-exploiting its resources. Thus the rate of use is higher than the use of replenishment, causing depletion and exploding butts

Shortage occur demand is greater than supply and price of the commodity goes up. When demand is less than supply, we have a surplus and the price of the commodity goes down. Fossil fuel are used by many industries. Until June 2008, we had a robust world economy (at least so it seemed) and oil prices went, then we went into recession, the demand lessen, and prices fell. So, short term shortages and surpluses have occurred due to economic conditions. Is the supply of fossil fues to meet future demands? Or asked another way, are shortages likely in the future as the global supply diminishes? Certainly many feel the answer is yes.

It is being depleted because we are consuming it at such a high rate, and it cannot regenerate itself (realistically) the way that other fuels can.
