Cells are capable of engulfing food by forming an invagination (a cavity in the cell membrane formed as a result of the movement of membrane lipids) in their plasma membrane. The engulfed food is then entrapped in a vesicle and transported to a specific location in the cell called the lysosome. The process is called phagocytosis
