What role did technology play in The Vietnam War?

1. The M551 Sheridan tank fired a 152mm completely combustible tank round in Vietnam. Todays M1 Abrams MBT fires an almost completely combustible 120mm tank round; unfortunately it still has a back cap that must be ejected from the breech. But the Sheridan pioneered the first totally combustible fixed cannon shell in combat (no empty shell ejecting). 2. Todays UAVs can thank the over 5,000 COMBAT missions flown by Ryan's UAV Firebees during the Vietnam War. 3. The first wire guided anti-tank missiles were used in combat in Vietnam in 1972; the US TOW for the allies and the Communist SAGGER for the NVA. Later these very same weapons would see action in the Middle East war in 1973 (Yom Kipper War). 4. Todays assault rifles and helicopters were all pioneered in the Viet War. 5. Todays bullet proof vests were pioneered in the Viet War; chopper pilots called them "Chicken plates." Not to be confused with flak vests, those were totally different. 6. The famous SR71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft made its first combat flights over North Vietnam. 7. The USN and USAF Top Gun and Red Flag aerial combat schools were created specifically BECAUSE of the Viet War. If it had not been for the war, those "gun-fighting" (dog-fighting) schools never would have been created. 8. Todays US Army and US Marine Corps sniper schools in America were created specifically BECAUSE of the Viet War. The war created the USMC snipers that pioneered todays sniper schools, and the USMC influenced the US Army to start their own sniper schools later on.

You don't know the cost of World War 1 in todays US dollars do you?

In Todays dollar, looking back on the total war cost of WWI (The Great War) from 1914-1918 would be close to 100 trillion dollars. It was the most expensive war ever fought, and sheer military casualties, the most bloodshed in a war to date.

What does Ch Lt Col stand for?

The "Ch" stands for Chaplain and "Lt Col" means Lieutenant Colonel. The military has Chaplains from numerous religious backgrounds serving the needs of todays soldier. Rank is extremely important in the military, but Chaplains hold a special place in the military. The Chaplain is there to support the religious needs and is depended on more as a Chaplain instead of like a regular officer.
