To change out the abs master cylinder on a 97 Achieva, first clean the inside of the brake system. Then remove the fluid reservoir cap. Unplug the master cylinder and loosen the brake nuts. Pull away the abs master cylinder and replace.Ê
possible petroleum contamination or a failed master cyl/abs if applicable
if you stand on the drivers side by the brake master cyl. look down and it is between the firewall and under the master cyl.
Remove instrument cluster, remove brake/clutch fluid reservoir, remove steering wheel lower cover. Clutch master cyl. can be reached just behind were fluid reservoir was mounted, remove cotter pin from cyl. shaft pin then remove pin, unhook fluid line to cyl. remove two bolts and unit will lift out. Not an easy job.rdb45594@msn.com

How do I change the brake pads on my 2003 Toyota Highlander (2WD 6 Cyl)? Is the procedure any different because of the ABS system? I have heard that it may be, and do not want to damage anything by compressing the calibers.
On the firewall to the left of the brake master cyl.
Left hand side under the brake master cyl.
on the fenderwell in front of the brake master cyl. by the charcoal canister.
4 cyl: 4.25qts 6 cyl: 6 qts
chances are its a leaking brake booster or rear seal on master cyl.
If you have a 4 cyl eng, looking down from the front of the car it would be directly under the intake in line with the black breather box on top of the engine. it is attached to the transmission bellhousing.
Follow bottom Raditor hose on passenger side of motor under the car.....it goes to a medal pipe that goes to the water pump....Remove the medal pipe and you will find your thermistat....This is on a 4 cyl. 4 quad...Do not leave thermistat out because the car will not heat up properly....
