You may want to try GuitarPaintGuys

They have painted 3 Guitars for me, and are great folks to work with, and do a really good job.

Pretty in-expensive too. Their regular refinish is only $170, and they even do some abstract and replica guitars too.

Whoever said black for metal or match "the colour with the song" . The question asked about TYPE of paint NOT color. I don't know for sure but i believe that guitar companies use automotive paints such as enamel or acrylic. Wood sealer first, primer, then paint sprayed next followed by clear. If this answer is wrong at least it's better than "black for death metal".

Yes; but I recommend to first strip the paint, and sand it down before repainting your guitar. You will also want to remove string, pick ups and bridge. You will want to tape off any areas you may not want painted.

Automotive spray paint , it's very easy to work with. Make sure to brush on some polyurethane after you're done getting the right color so you don't chip the guitar easily.

there's various kinds of polyurethane so just make sure if you're going shiny you go with glossy.. ask if you want a flat color like Schecter or Gibson explorer gothic (lets say) guitars use. Always use canned polyurethane! spray on polyurethane isn't good enough.

remember thin coats! 5 thin coats will give you the best possible sound you don't want too much or it'll take away the guitars sound. Polyuethane takes time to harden so read the instructions before applying a second coat you want the first one to harden 100% , make sure there is no bubbles or anything so using a can of polyurethane stir never shake.

don't forget to sand and polish, your parents could help

sand with 400 to 2000 grit sand paper , 600 and higher is found in the car section, wet the sand papers so they last longer

to polish you need three things:

polishing compound (not rubbing) - Turtle Wax or Meguiars

and swirl and scratch remover - Meguiars I like the most their ultimate polish

and a car polisher

use one pad for polishing compound once you're happy with what 2000 grit sand paper did

than use one pad (the smoother one) for swirl and scratch remover. The idea with this is to make the finish go hot enough to the point of where you touch the finish and it almost hurts. Any dust that is on the guitar finish while you polish remove after!

for safety

do this all in an open space , say outside or in a garage and remember to wear a gas mask they're like 5$ off of ebay to make sure you protect your lungs. The paint and finish is lead based.

good luck

spray paint as this gives a nice smooth finish. You want something that is intended for use on multiple surfaces- I always use Plasti-kote and get great results.

How do you make your guitar pink?

Dip it in pink paint. // Depending on how professional of a look you are going for, you can either buy pink spray-paint (or some other type of paint) and paint it yourself, or you can turn it into a guitar shop and ask them to give you a custom design. Be aware though, of the fact that you have to remove all the electrical components of the guitar (if it is an electric or semi-acoustic guitar) before re-painting it in the colour of your choice. It is only the so-called 'body' of the guitar that is to be re-painted! Another way is that, before you buy a guitar, you could try and speak to the guitar makers. More times than not, you are able to close a deal in which you (for an extra sum of money) receive your guitar in whatever design you favor.

What is the difference between a studio electric guitar and a normal electric guitar?

Studio electric guitars are usually a little cheaper than their normal counterparts, because the idea is that a studio electric guitar is stripped of visual things, like fancy paint jobs and fretboard inlays, where as the normal verson of the same guitar, with the same parts, might have more visual things added, for stage presence for instance.
