Why not? The child still has needs, even if one of the parents is in prison. Prisoners already have their rent and 'grocery bills' taken care of, so if the prisoner has any money, they should help taking care of the child they helped 'make'.

∙ 7y agoA child support obliger must petition the court to suspend child support payments during the period of incarceration or the obligations will continue to accrue. The child support order is not automatically suspended if the obliger goes to jail.
