Cleopatra's family was Greek. They were the descendants of Ptolemy Sotor
who was the first king of the dynasty. They were one of history's first dysfunctional families and seemed to have a family sport of killing each other off. So when Cleopatra murdered her brother and sister she was just carrying on a family tradition. However they were not all bad. The Ptolemies were the ones who built and patronized the great library of Alexandria with its famous "Museo".
This was not only a place to house books;
it was a scientific laboratory where medicine, astronomy and mathamaticswere studied.
