Models should try to dress casually to jobs. I recommend a loose fitting top that will slide over your head quite easily. There is nothing worse than sitting in a chair having your hair fiddled with for four hours, only to take off your tank top to get changed and ruin the whole do.
Same goes for make-up. Make-up artists tend to get quite annoyed if their hard work is ruined because you forgot to wear a top that won't rub against your face before you get changed for a shoot.
Another thing to stay away from is really tight fitting clothing. This is fine when your at the audition and trying to get the job, but once you have it, you don't have anymore convincing to do.
The reason you shouldn't wear anything too tight-fitting is because things like elastics on socks and Bras tend to leave marks and temporary indents in your skin.
Not only will the client be unimpressed but small things like this really do show your professionalism.
And another thing, don't take anything that means alot to you, such as extravagant jewlerry or personal belongings or even money. These things tend to go walk-abouts, especially when your working with other models.

For work other than fashion the photgrapher and/or art director will arrange with the model ahead of time for the model to bring the needed clothing, or arrange to have it supplied for the shoot. What clothing is needed depends on the shoot. If Its a resort, it will be clothing appropriate for the locations at the resort they'll be shooting at. If the shoot will depict a happy family buying its first house... and so on. When they're not on a shoot models wear whatever they want, like everyone else. It helps their career if they don't look like they never wore a business suit or long dress or a golf outfit or whatever before - it's more a matter of a positive attitude at work than what they wear at home, but it might be helpful to have tried a wide variety of clothing on in stores so there's some sense of how to carry yourself when wearing it.
