Selective breeding uses natural biological means to alter genetics--example is using a pollen from one strain to fertilize another strain and so "cross" the gene pools. While on the on the hand genetic engineering artificially goes into the chromosomes to edit them--an unnatural process. Example--a cold water fish gene is put into a crop so that it won't freeze in the winter. This would not naturally occur.
Selective breeding is when two individual animals of the same genus are chosen for characteristic traits and allowed to breed with one another. Genetic engineering is a scientific approach to produce genetically modified individuals of a species through biological alteration, however this process is typically not considered "natural".
Answer
Selective breeding is us using natural processes (i.e. sex) between animals we consider desirable too keep enhance that trait etc.
Genetic engineering is us actually altering/inserting/etc. DNA into an embryo/organism and having it express the trait we want, which is of course not natural.
Selective breeding uses a method of choosing wanted traits in an organism (animal/plant) and making two organisms reproduce, then from the next generation select the organisms which express the wanted traits and make them reproduce to create the 3rd generation. by now the wanted genes will be expressed in several of the offspring. However mutations will make animals express the trait to different degrees. This process can be carried out many generations to obtain the required trait/s wanted.
For example Standard grapes were bred selectively using plants with grapes with the smallest seeds. over many generations the seeds got smaller and smaller. now we have seedless grapes (note the grapes aren't seedless however the seeds are almost invisible).
Genetic engineering is the actual manipulation of the DNA of an organism, this can allow organisms to express traits which aren't native to the organism.
For example in America a company has created glow fish, from standard zebra fish.
The gene which makes them glow is from a type of jellyfish. The gene was inserted into the DNA of a Zebra fish Zygote (the cell formed when a sperm and an ovum join).

This is also known as cloning (in Biotechnology) and differs from the common perception of a clone being a replica of the original parent, although the process of cloning is directed at producing such a replicate (which may be partial or total).
the backbone of RNA contains ribose.
