Mount Pinatubo and Mt St Helens are active stratovolcanos.

Mt St Helens 1980 Eruption: Fifty-seven people were killed; 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles (24 km) of railways, and 185 miles (298 km) of highway were destroyed.

Pinatubo 1991 Eruption: Was 10 times larger then Mt St helens 1980 eruption. Over 800 people were killed by the eruption, mostly by roofs collapsing under the weight of accumulated wet ash, a hazard that was greatly exacerbated by the simultaneous arrival of Typhoon Yunya.
