Sweatshops in the 1800's were very tough. Children aged 7-12 made up 1/3 of the force in the US alone. They were forced to work for long hours with small pay and no food. in 1830 the general idea of sweatshops was concieved and then began to develop further in the 1850's. In the 1880's immigrants began to convert small apartments into sewing shops were women and young children would work to sew complete outfits.
