Consumers are important to the Eco system because they eat producers.When the consumer dies, scavengers break apart the consumers bodies and then decomposers break down the rest. Then a whole new crop of producers grows using the suns light energy and the nutrients the decomposers put back into the soil.

A primary consumer obtains its energy from producers (i.e. plants). Therefore a rabbit is a primary consumer because it eats grass and other plants. A secondary consumer eats primary consumers, therefore they do not get their energy directly from plants.The fox that eats the rabbit would be a secondary consumer.
They eat anything available like meats and veggies. If you are talking about an animal in this case it eats both meats and greens so it keeps the the food from over populating. That is why omnivores are important.:)
