It all depends. Fox could get an advantage by ship battle and Samus could get an advantage on ground battle. And Fox has his reflector to bounce back any projectiles Samus shoots.

to get wario, complete the subspace emissary or defeat him in a challenger battle. to get to a challenger battle, you play a certain amount of brawls(offline) or unlock or complete a certain mode. i honestly think that completeing the subspace emissay is the easiest way to get characters.some other characters you can unlock are wolf and toonlink.(i don't remember all the characters but i know i unlocked them all.)you cant really unlock zero suit samus, you just have to hold down the R button when selecting her(yes she is a her) and hold it down still through the stage selection and let go when brawling.i thnk these are some of the best, but that's just me.
