Hives, the itchy bumps that appear on your skin, are not fatal. They are usually just a reaction to something and go in a short time. They are just a symptom. However, there is a condition called Exercise Urticaria, of which hives can be a symptom, which on very rare occasions can be fatal.

The rash of hives itself will not kill you. The cause of the hives may, however. In most cases, hives are caused by an allergic reaction. Sometimes to a medication, sometimes to a food, or other times to an exposure - such as a bee sting. The cascade of events set in place by the allergic reaction - mast cell degranulation, massive histamine release, capillary leak, bronchospasm, angioedema, urticaria, etc, can result in respiratory distress and possibly hypotension and shock. These may lead to death, if the reaction is severe enough. If you think you are having a severe allergic reaction, please call 911 (or your local equivalent of emergency services) and be seen by a physician immediately for treatment.
